The 25mm D-ring is flexibly sewn into a webbing, which is attached to the backplate through the eyelet with the backplate using a mounting screw (not included in the scope of delivery).
The D-ring is easier to reach because it sits further outside, e.g. to clip off a reel or other equipment.
